FDNY LADDER 101 BROOKLYN

FDNY Ladder 101 parked opposite it home station in Brooklyn. The crowd of people crossing at the rear of the vehicle are making there way to the start of the Tunnel to Towers Charity run. This annual event retraces the foot steps made by a FDNY firefighter called Stephen Siller who had to run from Brooklyn to Manhattan when the Twin Towers were on fire, unable to get through in his car. The run goes through the Battery Tunnel (2 miles long) which joins Brooklyn with Manhattan. This years run attracted 25000 competitors from all over the world. I took part to raise money for the Firefigters Chaity (UK) with other firefighters and partners form my brigade. It was a fantastic experiance and well worth getting soaked through to the skin as it rained for the entire event. And the party after, Well thats another story !!.

The ship Three Fourty Three is expected to arrive in New York in December, she's-140ft long, 500-ton and cost $27 million US dollars. Three Fourty Three will be the country's largest fireboat with a maximum speed of 18 knots and will be assigned to Marine Division*1 stationed on the Hudson River in Manhattan and replaces the 50-year old Fireboat John D.McKean. Also a second ship for the Marine Division is currently at this time under construction, Fire Fighter 11, will eventually replace the 50 year-old 'Fire Fighter', and will be assigned to Marine 9 on Staten Island.
