Gee, Arto - I hope that this is not the first snow-fall of winter, arriving already for you !
This is an impressive Tanker on 4 axles. The pump must be mounted at the rear, to feed that Fire Monitor - there must be heaters, etc, to protect it from freezing up in the cold.
And a big Fire Station, from all the doors - do you have to move all your water by Fire Tanker, or is it possible to have Fire Hydrants and water-pipes in the ground ?
19300 litres is 4245 Imperial Gallons (5100 US Gals) - a welcome amount to arrive at the fire-scene.
From the map, I see Sakyla is on an inland lake, to the north-west of Helsinki, the capital.
Satakunta fire department have also similar large tanker in Kokemäki. But these are unusual tankers in Finland 4-axle tankers are about 10. Standart tanker in Finland is 10000-12000 litres and 3-axle.
Fire hydrants is not good in Finland so we have lot of tankers. One reason why we have so much tankers (and other vehicles) is that earlier there was community fire department and each community have to get own equipment. Most of communities have only one firestation and it full of vehicles. Like Säkylä, two rescue/pumpers, tanker, rescue, two crewcars and chief's car. Some stations have much more.
Since 2003/2004 there are 22 fire departments in whole Finland and now it is more co-operations with fire stations. Also these large tankers are plan to alarm if these needed in whole fire department area. (It is 3,200.4 sq mi and population 235,416)
Wow, I don't know how I missed this one, but I'm glad it popped up in the random shots. I know of too many areas in the USA that could use a tanker of this capacity to attack or shuttle water, not to mention lower the district's fire insurance rating. The tankers of this capacity make sense, compared to smaller capacity tankers.
Does this tanker have a pump? Some attack hose?
Thanks for posting, and providing some information on it. Guess I'll have to check out the rest of the Finnish appliance section. I saw some other really cool tankers.
