Thankyou David, a classic shot, John, " Ready, Aye, Ready" means they could never win an inter brigade drill contest and were always ready to try again next year.....

The motto is derived from the volunteer fire fighters in Western Australia. The Western Australia motto in turn though appears to have been adapted from the motto of the Edinburgh Brigade'Aye Ready!'.The modern fire fighting service of Western Australia has now adopted the Latin motto'Semper Paratas'-Always Ready.
You learn something new on this site all the time John,I hope your paying attention and that your taking notes. My motto-Watch/Listen/Learn.

the motto 'ready aye ready' stems from the beginnigns of the fire brigade. I know the first firemaster of Edinburgh used it to denote that his men were always ready to respond to any shouts or calls for help. I believe this is also where the term shout originated as the city watchmen would hurry along the streets shouting for the firemen to respond to a fire.

David, you have treated us to some great photos from a great period, many thanks. Black and white images would have been good but colour is excellent! Especially like the F7 which would have been in service for around 17 years when this photo was taken.

Thanks for al the kind comments- my self-effacing father (who took them) thought they weren't that exciting!! I must admit I thought the F7 would have been an F12 by 1950 (note the posher grille); the info I received was from Norman Downs of Humberside FB and I've confirmed it from the Dennis archives as being supplied to the Ministry of Works for KUHFB.
