Thankyou Graham another classic, ah! cork fire helmets and lancer tunics, escape drill followed by a cheese and onion roll and tea....
Another great pic Graham, i don't recall seeing thes at York, just the 2 white Bedfords on a 67 E reg .
Love the manual folding doors on the appliance doors and this appliance looks rather special too, i think the best combination in the world was Bedfor / HCB - Angus, just a shame they no longer make fire appliances.
Graham,i know your pictures are nice but i do wish you would go back into the transfer producing mode! I really could do with some custom made transfers(decals for our American friends)
Hi Ian, nice to hear from you, it’s been a long time trust you are well, I can’t help with the reg no for this appliance, I only put the date on the photo. I’m still making the models, if you go to my page on this site there is a link to my website were you can see a lot of the models. I will be coming to Preston Hall but only as a visitor.
John, York had two of these HCB Angus appliances on the run in the 60’s, the other one had the hose reels on each side enclosed in a full length locker and was fitted with a 45ft ladder. As for the white appliances at York I think you may be thinking of the Coventry Yellow that York used until 1974 as I can’t remember any white appliances in York There were four in Coventry Yellow colour, Bedford RL ET, Commer Walk-Thru Salvage Tender, ERF/Simon SS50 HP & Ford/Carmichael WrL.
Graham i recall PWE932E and NWX722E White Bedord tk's being based at York certainly in the 1970's, think one of them went to tadcaster, if i recall rightly, i think Paul Warnock has a pic of one of these on his page.
I remember them being a twin car Petrol engine and being slow whilst the engines were cold, i cycled behind one upto fulford on a shot then it shot off at a great rate of speed.
Maybe someone can shed some light on thes being based at York .
hi graham, i will be at Preston park sat and sun, part of the red cross fire victim suport crew if you want to pop in the van for a coffee and chat and any other site veiwers/contributers are welcome if you are st the show ian mc
Hi John, I think the white Bedford petrol TK's you refere to were inherited from the West Riding fleet in 1974 on local Government boundary changes. I joined in 1977 and there were some in the reserve fleet then as we had them as spares at Acomb when ever the PAJ Bedford pumps went off the run. Paul.
John J, I believe the 2 white Bedfords came to North Yorkshire from the West Riding on the formation of the North Yorkshire Fire Brigade in 1974, and were used as spare machines to cover for regular appliances when they were off the run for repair. I don’t think they were ever stationed at York on a full time basis, if I’m wrong, I’m sure someone out there will let me know. Along with the Bedfords a number of white Dennis appliances from the West Riding came to North Yorkshire in 1974, three of these were still in use in 1985 at Skipton, Summerbridge and Lythe.
Graham, spot on with that, the Dennis replaced the Summerbridge TK, the Dennis and TK are under restoration at the moment and are pictured on this site.
Well, the question was asked way back in June 2009 what was the registration of this(WrT)pump. I'm at this time planning to build a model of York Fire Station and the appliances (yellow) that were used around 1970-73. This Bedford/HCB-Angus appliance was registered GVY876D.
Thanks for sharing your old pictures with us,there most enjoyable.
