Jelcz/Magirus TTL Międzyrzecz Poland Jelcz/Magirus – TTL – Międzyrzecz
POLISH CLASSICS SERIES – brought to you by firerescue.pl
This classic 30m (100ft) 1979 Jelcz/Magirus turntable ladder is allocated to the State Fire Service fire & rescue station in Miedzyrzecz, western Poland. It is one of a few dozen ladders mounted on Jelcz 420 chassis. From late 1970s to lat 1980s, the majority of West German TTLs (Metz and Magirus) delivered to Polish fire services were made in this manner, along with many other specials (such as chemical incident units). Using chaper trucks from Jelcz-Laskowice was a way of driving down the costs of purchasing high-tech, specialist equipment from the West. Smaller cities and towns often went for the IFA W50L/VEB FGL TTLs from the GDR. Many old Jelcz TTLs are still in service today, but efforts are being made to replace them as soon as possible, because the aging Jelcz chassis are becoming less and less reliable (while the Magirus ladders themselves are doing fine).
