Marine fire station: I think today, it's quite unusual to have a fire station in the dock area of a city. Southampton used to have Western Docks fire station but I believe that closed in the mid '90s. Can anybody tell me how many calls the crew of Marine Fire Station respond to annually? I can't imagine them being particularly busy. Cheers.
hi yelp the crew use to man the (fireboat)now gone as well as a pump, they also cover a residential area of middlesbrough and the town center shops and universityand industrial sites.
Yes its on the 'other side' of the town centre from the main station so is able to respond to the town centre as a second pump which is able to use alternative traffic routes, it is situated on public roads and not in the docks area. Liverpool City used to have stations at Canada and Coburg Docks but they were within the docks complex,
Marine used to have a Ford 'A' series/G & T Attack L4 Pump (EPY108V) based there from about 1980. It's main duty was actually to cover the Cleveland and the Hill Street Centres, which owing to their narrow throughfares gave bigger appliances problems. (or at least it did in 1980) That machine was withdrawn c1987/8 and went to a Chemical Factory near Teesside airport. It was scrapped around 2002 following severe problems with rot. The original Marine fire station dates from November 1946, although there had been Fire boats there since 1939. The Station operated Fire boats and a road going appliance.Currently there are no fire boats, and the current inhabitant R247JNL has been there since April 2005 replacing N746YAJ a Dennis Sabre. The station seen in this picture was built in 1992 and replaced the earlier structure. This station is remarkably busy R247JNL is often on blues and twos up in central Middlesbrough.
Port of Felixstowe operates a fire brigade which runs in close connection with Suffolk FRS and will book out on Suffolk main scheme to all incidents. Felixstowe dock fire also operate an ambulance which frequently helps out the East of England Ambulance service.

Chris, you claim this is a busy station when in fact in 2009 Marine Fire Station responded to only 402 calls.
