Wonder how many of these Dennis's have survived from Cleveland - I know they still use some for driver training... these are the fire engines I remember as a kid.
There are several survivors at the moment, but their numbers will dwindle as new Scanias or Sabres enter the fleet. Most of the survivors are either reserve appliances or training machines. Stockton still has M226PHN as a reserve, whilst some of the others are dotted around the retained stations. Some of these are approaching fifteen or so years old, quite scary to someone like me who remembers seeing the old AEC Mercurys from Teesside Fire Brigade!
Cleveland is a relatively small brigade, and usually most machines are withdrawn in one's and two's giving them a lower survival rate. The major handling centre for withdrawn vehicles(of any operator)on Teesside used to be Maltby Auctions near Yarm, but tis establishment now just deals in lease cars. All the photos I have of withdrawn Fire Engines going through Maltby show them in a derilict or semi derilict state, so presumably they get cannabalised first. Very few of Cleveland's appliances of any type have appeared elsewhere, but there are some about.(B146LVN was owned by Hartlepool Power Station at one time, but I think it has gone now, and the Dennis Delta HP ODC234L was last heard of at Southampton Docks) Many of Cleveland's early acqusitions from it's constituant Brigades ended up being scrapped at North East Bus Breakers of Annfield Plain in Co Durham. Nothing of Cleveland's machines have to my knowledge have ever been sold abroad.
Err, a correction to my last comment above, Redcar's Dennis TL JDC296W was believed to be exported to Hong Kong around 1992. Anyone from there able to confirm this?
Now that's something I didn't know Chris ! JDC 296W carried the ladder from OXG 950 of course, and Hong Kong certainly don't normally buy second-hand.

The information was given to me by a chap who took a photograph of JDC after it's disposal. He photographed it at a location near Middlesbrough Docks, and that's what the driver had told him. However, since then I haven't yet had any further details of it's destination. Presumably you know that OXG950 was partialy converted into a recovery truck? Unfortunately that project was halted in favour of it's disposal, and OXG went through the Maltby Auctions.
hi Chris JDC did go to china, Peking i think, sold by C Leonard of guisbrough and OXG was seen by my self at Prossers scrap yard in SouthBank minus the ladder and with a white front, does anybody have apic of this Ian Mac
Ah well there's the disposal of JDC and OXG sorted out then, particularly if confirmation can be got. I have a picture of my mum's and my cars taken at the place where my Dad used to work - Northern Gas board at Thornaby which was behind Thornaby Fire Station (and Brigade Workshops). In the background of the picture can be seen partial views of the Ford 'A' series workshop van, and OXG950. Unfortunately in this partial view OXG has it's back to the Camera, so I can't confirm OXG's white front. When the view is digitalised, I'll send it to Marcel, but the view is more of the two Cars rather than the fire appliances behind, so it may not get published.
Ah - that JDC 296W went to Peking makes a bit more sense - it was the Hong Kong reference that I was disputing. As regards OXG 950, the only shot I took of it was back in its Middlesbrough days ! (Showing my age again !!!)
