Comments:
Usually AEC/Merryweather is popular with it's Turntable Ladder.Anywhere, quite impressive although the wheel escape ladder (at the rear) make it looks antique but i like the bell.

Hi im Liane and own and run FWE 984 J. I nickname him "wheely" because of the wheeled escape on the back. He has proved reliable time and time again, attending the Great Dorset Steam Fair for the last two years. As i live in Swansea thats a round trip of 300 miles. Have also attended this years 999 ESS show for the second year running. He covered 500 miles in two weeks without fault. My husband Glenn, owns another AEC Mercury, but a TL, MAJ 921 F.

Hi Liane, hope you are still looking in on this site as I have just seen your husband's request for information on this machine in Fire Cover magazine and I may be able to help indirectly. I recommend you look at the National Association of Retired Firefighters (NARF) site for Sheffield and get in touch with the 'site master' who rode this appliance when it was new. He has been of great assistance to me recently with my former Sheffield F15 and is willing to help you if he can.

Hi Liane, you have a great rig.\; good to see safely in preservation, and operating.
What year is "Wheely" ? as he must be near the end of Pump Escapes era.
My previous question answered.
Pete Matten has given full details on Pic # 17139 of this same rig - a great shot of "Wheely" bowling along.
Hello Liane, what a superb appliance! The AEC Mercury is the quintissential fire engine to me. What a beauty! So glad to see this one presered and in such brilliant shape.
Where is its earlier sister KBC 416E 1967.This appliance was stationed at the City of Leicester Fire Brigade Stn.on Lancaster Rd. The Transport Officer and i collected this appliance from Merryweather,Greenwich Rd. This appliance was fitted with 5 speed syncromesh gearbox so it went through the gear change quicker than the constant mesh.It was not the fastest of the fleet.
From Dave retired brigade engineer/transport officer of the City of Leicester Fire Brigade i see no mentions of David Haydon Magirus TTL on a Dennis chassis. We had one reg 700 EJF.Also we had a Leyland Tiger/Braidwood Body wheeled escape circa 1939.It had a 6cyl petrol engine with coil & magneto ignition. The reg was DBC 502. Any comments.
