1942 Leyland / Merryweather 100'Turntable Ladder1942 Leyland TD7 / Merryweather 100'Turntable Ladder.
This 1942 Leyland TD7/half-cab Merryweather 100'Turntable Ladder was one of 30 built for the Home Office and issued to the National Fire Service for the war effort.
A total of 63 Merryweather 100' mechanical TL's were constructed for the National Fire Service and of these,30 were built on the Leyland TD7 bus chassis,25 were constructed on Leyland Beaver chassis,and the last eight were built on Dennis chassis.
This picture shows clearly the driver position,as well as the crew position behind driver.
Although I've sent in a picture of this TL before,having found now alot of my very old
negatives,I thought I might send these more detailed photographs into the site.
I'm glade I found them,and hope you enjoy viewing them.

Hi Pete, I have read that there were 1400 F series made up to around 1968 but I haven't seen a figure for after that. I have looked at every Dennis picture on this site but I'm always hopeful of seeing something new like the recent F17 ET from Northern Ireland.
My favourites are the '7s', '8s', '12s', '15s' etc but there are not many I don't like! Any pics of older vehicles always appreciated even if they don't receive a comment.

It is bottom half of a Double-Decker Bus - for any one trying to figure this Aerial rig out......
picture #12165 and picture #12167 shew "Thunder Guts" - a similar rig - 1948 construction - in happier, peace-time colours, preserved in New Zealand.
Same idea in USA; Crown Coach (1914 - 1991) of Los Angeles/Chino, California built Firecoach, open-cabbed fire-engines on a bus/coach chassis.
Keep digging out those old photos, Pete; really enjoying all these wonderful rigs.

Leyland
Have you any shots of 1950s Dennis F series amongst them? They are a bit thin on the ground at the rallies these days (except at Preston Hall which seems to have more than it's quota!).
