Buckinghamshire ERF ECS

Looking down on one of Buckinghamshire's TVAC-bodied ERF ECS rescue pumps allows the roof detail to be seen. One of four such vehicles in the fleet, OV51 FCN is the sole appliance based at Winslow's retained station and is seen taking part in the 2006 Buckingham Christmas Parade.

That 13.7 ladder looks 'low-slung'. It seems to emerge quite low down above the pump bay. I imagine that this is a recent evolution of fire appliance design since the fire service did-away with the height limit entry requirement. Or is it just an optical illusion?

The lockers seem to be taller than normal on this appliance, but the water tank is probably the same size/height as normal due to weight restrictions and centre of gravity etc, so this could give the impression that the ladder gantry is 'low-slung'

Aaah, I didn't previously notice the extra height of the rear bodywork and lockers. That probably explains it. Nevertheless, ERF: a good old British marque (Obviously, I say that nostalgically and not in the real world). Cracking looking appliance.

Dennis, ERF . . . aah, just imagine British fleets could look if British engineering, value for money and on-going capability matched patriotic desires. Scandinavian and Germanic chassis are all very well, but they're just not British. Shame really. But that's money for you . . . !

To be fair this appliance has the MAN cab, so to me, it isn't a true ERF unlike the other pic which is one.

Just out of interest, Foden, which ERF used to be part of only ever produce 1 fire appliance chassis, a water carrier for Lincolnshire, i think it's on an R reg, was wondering if anyone has any pics or info on it.

It did indeed, R986LFE apparently has been sold as seen on this website here exmod-uk.com/equip.php?ID=419 (cut and paste into a browser) it spent all its service life based at Spalding fire station as Lincolnshires sole water carrier. I don't know what it has been replaced with yet, i'll have to look when I'm next down there.

Thanks Stephen, i thought it might well have gone as Foden parts, esp for the plaggy rat cab are becomming more and more rare, oh well, bye bye to the only ever Foden fire engine i guess!

Stephen are you or were you a fire fighter based at York?
